Ong Choon Kiat's Biography



Ong Choon Kiat, Senior Scientist, National Cancer Centre Singapore

Dr Ong Choon Kiat is a Senior Scientist with the Laboratory of Cancer Epigenome, National Cancer Centre Singapore. Choon Kiat obtained his BSc (Hon) in 2000 and PhD in 2006 from the National University of Singapore. He is currently leading the genomic research in cholangiocarcinoma and other hepatobiliary cancers. He has published in international peer reviewed journals such as the Nature Genetics, Nature, Cancer Discovery, Genome Biology, Oncogene, Cancer Research and Journal of Biological Chemistry. His main interest is to apply technologies in cancer research, translating them to patient care.

With landmark mutation studies for each cancer type completed and the reduced cost in high throughput sequencing, the pace toward personalized oncology is gaining momentum. I will describe the application of NGS in molecular diagnostics, its challenges and two successful cases on lung cancer.
