Marie-Christine Jones's Biography



Marie-Christine Jones, Lecturer, University of Birmingham

Marie-Christine obtained her Bachelor in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy (Université de Montréal) in 2000 before completing a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. After 4 years of post-doctoral research at the School of Pharmacy (now part of UCL) and King’s College London, Marie-Christine joined the University of Birmingham in 2012 as a lecturer and part of the team building the new MPharm course. Her research interests include nanopharmaceutics and nanotoxicology, with a focus on organic material and their use for the targeted delivery of low-molecular weight and macromolecular therapeutics.

This presentation will explore the role of surface hydrophobicity as a driving force behind the toxicity of inhaled organic nanomaterials. Specifically, this study aimed to verify the premise that adverse reactions in the lung can be reduced through a decrease in surface hydrophobicity.
