Introduction to the Training Course

3D-cell culture models present a challenge for using imaging methods and assay chemistries that were originally designed for measuring events from 2D monolayers of cells. The size of 3D structures and the added complexity of scaffolds and “chip devices” used for culturing often present barriers to directly measuring markers to interrogate biological function.

This workshop will present basic strategies and factors to consider for designing and validating assays applied to 3D culture models. We will discuss case studies describing reagent design efforts and alternate approaches to overcome the limitations inherent with detecting markers from 3D culture models.

Topics Covered in this Training Course

  • Introduction to 3D-Culture
  • Why 3D-Culture and Its Utility in Basic Research and the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Challenges in the Deployment of 3D Culture Protocols
  • Designing detection reagents and appropriate controls to confirm lysis of all cells in 3D culture model systems measuring markers released into culture medium
  • The use and penetration of small molecule probes to and interrogate biology within 3D structures
  • The potential to apply real time multiplex detection methods with 3D models for high throughput screening

Who Should Attend

  • Basic Researchers Seeking to Bring 3D-Culture into their Research Environment
  • Pharmaceutical Industry Researchers
  • Technology and Tools Providers Seeking an Understanding of the Opportunities in this Field and Potential for Product Development

This is an interactive training course -- refreshments are served to all course attendees.  We plan to include time for informal open and interactive discussion of topics and benefit from sharing of experiences among participants.

All course participants will receive the slide decks used for the workshop and also latest reviews and publications of value for R&D presentations, business plans and investor presentations.
