This market report summarizes the results of HTStec’s global web-based benchmarking survey on biobanking and biorepositories. The objective of the report was to comprehensively document current interest in biobanking and gain a better understanding of the future market requirements for automated deep cooled biobanks and the automation of blood fractionation. The survey looked at the current use of refrigerators and/or freezers for biological sample storage, plans to implement an automated deep-cooled biobanking capability and current access to an automated biological samples store. With respect to the acquisition of such a facility the survey investigated amongst other subjects the type of biological material planned to store; the desired storage temperature; type of storage vessels to be used; maximum sample storage capacity; typical sample storage times. With respect to blood fractionation the survey specifically investigated the container format blood is received in; blood fractions that are collected, retained or processed further and the containers into which they are transferred; type of blood sample stored and required storage temperatures and other questions relating to blood samples.
The survey report will be of interest to manufacturers and developers or automated refrigerated storage systems who are specifying new biobank developments and could assist them in bringing their new products to the market earlier.
