Sarah Harten,
Senior Research Officer
Dr Harten, an NHMRC Early Career Research Fellow at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia. In 2010 she returned to Australia to join the laboratory of epigenetics expert Prof. Emma Whitelaw, to work on a mouse ENU mutagenesis screen aimed at identifying novel epigenetic modifiers. The screen produced a panel of over 40 mutant mouse lines with defects in both known and novel epigenetic modifiers. Homozygous mutants from several of the mutant lines display developmental heart defects. Dr Harten’s team is now investigating the role of epigenetics in cardiac development and adult on-set heart disease
