Keerthana I Prasad, Associate Professor

Dr Keerthana Prasad has been working as an Associate Professor in Manipal University, India. Her main research interest is in development of low-cost technology based on image processing for rural health. She has been working on applications of image processing and analysis in the area of medical diagnostics and research. She has developed image analysis tools for medical researchers such as Colony counter, Gel analyzer, WoundAnalyzer, ILoC –lossless color coding tool, Reverse Dot Blot Assay Analyzer and TissueQuant (for quantification of staining intensity). Another tool developed by her, for evaluation of bone mineral density named BMDScan has won the Microsoft Rural Innovation Award (US $ 15,000). For another work on automation of malaria parasites detection using image analysis, she won the IDF Innovation Award of US$ 500. Her team is working on development of a novel device ECO (Easy Cervico Optimizer) for cervical cancer screening in low resource settings, which has won the CAMTech Innovation award (US$ 50,000). She is working on another research project on blood smear screening and detection of leukemia. She has submitted five patent applications to Indian Patent Office which are pending examination. She has published around 20 research papers in indexed international journals. She is guiding 5 PhD projects in Manipal University.
