Usha Bajwa, Professor

Dr. (Mrs.) Usha Bajwa Professor (Food Technology) started her teaching career as Pool Officer (CSIR) after obtaining her Ph.D. (Food Technology) and later joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU, Ludhiana. She has an experience of over 32 years in the field of Food/ Dairy Technology, both as a teacher and researcher. She has been teaching undergraduate students of Agriculture and Veterinary Colleges and post graduate students majoring in Food Science and Technology. She has guided 15 M.Sc. and 3 Ph.D. students as major advisor. She has over 70 research and invited papers to her credit published in national and international journals of repute, attended and contributed to 40 scientific conferences and seminars, supplemented 20 chapters to books and compendiums and written 6 practical manuals. Her keen interest in dissemination of knowledge and transfer of technology is reflected abundantly in over160 lectures and demonstrations to small entrepreneurs and women groups. She has published around 40 popular articles in agricultural magazines and newspapers.
Main thrust of her research has been on enhancing the quality attributes of indigenous milk products; development of technology for health foods and beverages incorporating natural food ingredients rich in phyto-chemicals; effect of processing parameters on physico-chemical quality, functional components, sensory scores, microbiological quality and shelf- life assessment. Most of her work revolved around generation of implementable technology. She is widely travelled and has visited research institutes within the country and abroad to have updates and hands-on knowledge of latest research, training and technologies in Food and Dairy tech. She has been awarded by Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), Mysore and conferred KU Patel Memorial Award in 2007.
