Timothy Woods's Biography



Timothy Woods, Deputy Director

A Chartered Scientist, Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Scientists, with an MBA from the University of Liverpool, in 1988 Tim joined the United Kingdom National External Quality Assessment Service (UKNEQAS) as Manager of Blood Coagulation (BC) programmes, with subsequent appointment as Deputy Director. Prior to joining UK NEQAS, Tim held senior Biomedical Scientist posts in haematology departments at teaching hospitals in Southern Africa, London and Western Australia.

In November 1993, Tim relocated UK NEQAS BC programmes from the Haemophilia Centre, Royal Free Hospital, London to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a member of the UK NEQAS BC Steering Committee since 1989, Tim acted as Secretary from 1996 to 2002 and is also a member of the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) International EQA Steering Committee, advising for the programme organised on behalf of WFH. Serving two terms as a Haematology Division Representative on the Executive Committee of the UK NEQAS Consortium, Tim was also Vice-President of UK NEQAS until October 2012 and is currently Chairman of the UK NEQAS Point of Care Testing Working Group.
