Anthony Papenfuss, Head, Bioinformatics and Cancer Genomics Laboratory

Dr. Anthony Papenfuss is Associate Professor & Head of Computational Biology at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, and holds a joint appointment as a lab head at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he is the Lorenzo and Pamela Galli Melanoma Research Fellow. He is one of Australia’s leading computational cancer biologists. His lab develops new bioinformatics methods to make sense of next generation sequence and other -omics data in cancer. He has developed a number of novel methods for predicting somatic genomic rearrangements and discovered the mechanisms underlying the formation of cancer neochromosomes. He is the current president of the Australian Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Society.
