Deepa Bhajekar's Biography



Deepa Bhajekar, Managing Director

Dr. Deepa completed her PhD in Food Microbiology in 1992 from the Food technology department at ICT (previously known as UDCT in Matunga, Mumbai), the prestigious Institute of Chemical technology. Dr. Deepa Bhajekar is currently Director of ‘d technology’, a company comprising of dedicated dynamic doctorates committed to scientific excellence. d technology brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of scientists comprising of chemical engineers, food technologists, biotechnologists, microbiologists all knowledge transfer experts to innovate, upgrade and translate new technological solutions to unsolved problems of quality, consistency and productivity in food and agri products. The solutions will be economically viable, easy to scale up to industry level with low running costs. Technologies developed with complaint to global regulatory requirements. Prior to that, she started in the year 2000 a food-testing laboratory, which grew to become a leader in the field known for high levels of integrity, ethics and technical expertise. In 2010, the company had a joint venture with Silliker (Merieux Nutriscience Group, France), the global leader in food and water analysis operating out of 17 countries and 75 locations around the world. She continued to become Managing Director of MicroChem Silliker Pvt. Ltd, and grew the company to 250 analysts expanding operations to 18 cities in India. The laboratory, over 5 years during the JV, increased the scope of tests to over 400 with test reports being accepted in 170 countries, in the area of nutrition, primarily vitamins and micronutrients, contaminants like pesticides, antibiotics, heavy metals and microbiology. The laboratory initiated an inspection and auditing division to become the leader in the food quality domain. Having analysed over 25 lakh samples over the last 15 years, realizing there were no viable solutions to eliminate the common contaminants, the scientist and business woman recognized a virgin area to foray into a new and exciting business activity and the second entrepreneurial venture ‘d technology’ was born. She won two prestigious awards – ‘Woman Entrepreneurship’ at the hands of the then chief minister Shri. Prithviraj Chavan and ‘First Generation Entrepreneur’ at ICT, Mumbai. She is also a ‘Distinguished Alumni’ of ICT. She brought into India the international organization from USA called AOAC – American Official Analytical Chemists and opened the ‘India Section of AOAC International’ as the first President.
