Alexander Kapustin, Research Associate

Dr Alexander Kapustin graduated from the School of Biology (Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russia) in 2000 and then undertook a PhD in the field of vascular biology at the Faculty of Basic Medicine (Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russia). Parts of the PhD studies were conducted at the Baker Medical Research Institute (Melbourne, Australia) and the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, USA). Alexander joined Professor Catherine Shanahan’s group at Cambridge University in 2007 and then moved with the group to King’s College London. Alexander has been a member of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles since 2012. His paper in Circulation Research showing that exosomes mediate calcification was selected by the editorial board as one of the top most read articles published in 2015. Dr Kapustin was a UK coordinator for the joint UK/Russia workshop on extracellular vesicles in 2015. In 2016 Alexander was awarded an associate lecturer position (honorary) in the Cardiovascular Division at King’s College London, where he continues to elucidate the role of exosomes in cardiovascular diseases.
