Chris Ward's Biography

Chris Ward, Associate Professor

Chris Ward is an Associate Professor and Principal Investigator at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His work focuses on polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and he was involved in the cloning of the PKD1 and PKHD1 genes that are mutated in dominant and recessive PKD, respectively. Dr. Ward is best known for his work on extracellular vesicles (such as exosomes) that contain the products of PKD-related genes, as well as the production of monoclonal antibody reagents against these proteins. Recently Dr. Ward discovered that a certain protein is decreased in the urinary exosomes of individuals with PKD. Dr. Ward is currently developing a rapid and accessible assay for the detection of PKD-related proteins on urinary exosomes to diagnose and monitor the progression of PKD.
