Marc Nazare's Biography

Marc Nazare, Group Leader Medicinal Chemistry

Marc Nazare is group leader medicinal chemistry at the Leibniz Institut fuer Molekulare Pharmakologie FMP, Berlin, Germany. He studied chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe and obtained his PhD in organic chemistry in 1999 under the guidance of Prof. Herbert Waldmann working on a natural product total synthesis. He started his career in the pharmaceutical industry at Aventis (now Sanofi) in Frankfurt, as a medicinal chemist and project leader working on most major drug classes: kinase-, GPCR-, protease- and ion channel projects in the active-to-lead, lead optimization and candidate identification stage. Most notably on Factor Xa inhibitors and P2Y12 antagonists for the treatment of thrombosis, where he contributed to several clinical candidates. In 2013, he joined the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology FMP to lead the medicinal chemistry group in the chemical biology department. The current research activities are focused on the design and optimization of chemical probes and imaging tools for chemical biology.
