Franz Hessel, Professor

Dr Franz Hessel, MD, MPH, is Professor for Healthcare Management at the SRH University Berlin since 2011. Currently he is program director of the University's MBA programs on General Management and International Healthcare Management. He is guest lecturer in pharmaco-economics, health economics, health systems research and health politics at other national and international universities.
He received a medical degree and a master degree in public health from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. He held several academic positions at the Universities in Munich, Greifswald and Essen in health economics and healthcare management between 1997 and 2006. He specialized in economic evaluation modeling, Health Technology Assessment and real-life studies.
In 2006 Dr. Hessel joined Sanofi-Aventis Germany as head of the Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) team before he moved to Abbott Laboratories into the role of Director International HEOR for Abbott's diagnostic divisions.
Since more than 15 years he advises clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech and diagnostic industry on matters related to market access, reimbursement and health economics. He is author or co-author of about 100 of scientific publications. Over the last years he worked on several scientific projects on biomarker tests, companion diagnostics and personalized medicine.
