Daria Semenova's Biography

Daria Semenova, Researcher

Daria Semenova is currently employed as a postdoctoral researcher working on the development of sensing technologies for biobutanol production in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She obtained her MSc degree at D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia in 2012 studying novel chemical pathways for synthesis of 1,8 naphthyridine based bisphosphonates and fluorinated derivatives of thebaine for osteoporosis treatment and production of analgesics, respectively. From 2012 to 2014 she continued to work on synthesis of highly potent analgesics from non-narcotic sources as a researcher at A. N. Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds (INEOS) at Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. In 2014 she joined a Process and Systems Engineering Centre (PROSYS), DTU as a part of Marie Curie Multi-ITN project EUROMBR and obtained her PhD degree (2018) working on mathematical and experimental optimization of biosensor and microbioreactor technologies for bio-based processes. During her PhD and postdoc studies she attended as visiting researcher different institutions in Italy, Austria, Finland and Germany. Her scientific background includes chemical technology of synthetic bioactive substances, drug discovery, sensing technologies (optical and electrochemical sensors), enzymatic biocatalysis and microfluidics. Her current research interests are focused on the development and application of electrochemical biosensors for real-time fermentation monitoring and use of the mathematical models in the design and optimization of screening technologies for bio-based processes. She published 5 papers in well-reputed academic journals and participated in more than 10 prestige international conferences and congresses with oral and poster presentations.
