Virupaksh U Patil , Scientist (Senior Scale)

Mr Virupaksh U. Patil is specialized in plant biotechnology and working as scientist (Senior Scale) at ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla since 2009. He worked in the field of structural and Functional genomics of potato and its major pathogens. He was involved in the International Potato Genome Sequencing Consortium (PGSC) consisting of 29 labs from 12 different countries including India and successfully completed the whole genome sequencing of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Presently Mr Patil is working on genome sequencing of major potato pathogens like Phytophthora infestans (Latebligh), Fusarium sambucinum (Dry rot), Rhizactonia solani (Stem rot) and Ralstonia solanacearum (Bacterial wilt). Apart from this he is also working on deciphering the functionality of genes involved in potato abiotic stress tolerance like Draught, Disease (Lateblight), Heat tolerance and Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE). He has been honoured with Agrarian award and Certificate of appreciation from Indian Potato Association for outstanding contribution in potato development.
