Daman Kumari's Biography



Daman Kumari, Staff Scientist, Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology

Dr. Kumari is a Staff Scientist in the Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, National Institutes of Health. Dr. Kumari received her PhD in 1997 from the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India, and postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health. Her research goal is to elucidate the mechanism of repeat mediated FMR1 gene silencing in fragile X syndrome which will help design treatment strategies based on restoration of gene expression. Another focus of her research is to generate fragile X syndrome stem cells that can model the developmental silencing of the FMR1 gene.
