Ex-Director, ICAR-DMR, Solan
Dr Manjit Singh joined Agricultural Research Service of ICAR as Scientist in Sept 1976, became Head, Division of Plant Sciences and Biotechnology in May 1997, then Director, ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research , Solan in Jan 2009 and superannuated in Mar 2015. After retirement joined as Mushroom Advisor, Govt of Punjab upto March 2017. Did M.Sc and Ph.D (Genetics) from PAU, Ludhiana. Received MS Randhawa Medal for Best Essay on “Evolution of Life” from Punjab Agricultural University during Ph.D. and ICAR Team Award for “Genetic Improvement of Prosopis cineraria” (1993) for work on arid zone trees. Worked on Potato for 8 years, Arid zone trees, grasses, shrubs and crops for 20 years and on mushrooms for 10 years. Significant achievements in mushrooms include development of five high yielding varieties including non-browning hybrids, development of low cost technology (zero energy poly-tunnel), cultivation of new species like Auricularia.
