Aylin Turgut's Biography

Aylin Turgut, Researcher

Aylin gained her Bachelor’s degree from Imperial College London, UK in Biochemistry (October 2008-July 2011) after which she went onto obtain a Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA in Stem Cell Biology under a Fulbright scholarship for 2 years (September 2012-June 2014). Her Master’s research project focused on the regeneration of lung tissue using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and microRNAs. She then went onto work as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Child Health in University College London where her project focused on using microRNAs to generate renal stem cells from hiPSCs (November 2014-July 2015). Aylin joined the Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing group in October 2015 as a PhD student. Her project involves building 3D architectures for cardiomyocyte function utilizing 2-photon lithography. Her aims include researching polymers amenable to 2-photon lithography and cardiomyocyte attachment, building complex 3D architectures with the polymers and investigating the effect varying architecture on cardiomyocyte attachment and maturity.
