Alexander Guttenplan's Biography

Alexander Guttenplan, Guest Researcher

Alexander Guttenplan holds a master's degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. degree in nanotechnology from the University of Cambridge, UK. His Ph.D. research focused on the synthesis of protein-based nanomaterials using microfluidics. After a short period working in industry, he moved to the MERLN Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, where he developed microfluidic devices incorporating sensors to model cell-material interactions involved in bone growth and repair. Since 2021, he has been a PREP guest researcher in the Biological and Biophysical Measurement Group, Physical Measurement Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology, funded through the University of Maryland. His research focuses on the development of new microfluidics-based measurement techniques to quantify cancer cell aggressiveness.
