Rama Shanker Verma,
Professor
Dr Rama Shanker Verma obtained under graduation and post graduation degree from Allahabad University and his doctoral degree from School of Life Sciences, JNU, New Delhi. He moved to US for his Postdoctoral research at Indiana University-Perdue University at Indianapolis, IN USA, he was there from 1986-1991. After that, he moved at National Institute of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland as staff fellow at Division of Cancer Treatment branch, National Cancer Institute, NIH. In 1995 he joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
In 1997, he came to India and joined Department of Biochemistry, Punjab University, Chandigarh and then Department of Biotechnology, NIPER, Chandigarh. In 2000, he switched from academics to industry and joined Cadila Health Care, Ahmedabad, as General Manager and later to Lupin Pharmaceuticals at Pune as Vice President and Head, Pharmacology Division, Drug Discovery Group.
His current research interests involve Stem cells and their regenerative potential, Immunotoxins, and developing MAbs against receptors. He is the member of several societies like - American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology USA, Society Of Biological Chemists, India, All India Biotech Association India, Association of Microbiology India, Indian Genetic Society India, Indian Society of Cardiovascular Research , India and Indian Immunological Society.
In 2014 he has been elected Fellow to National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), fellow of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy and Senior Scientist award from Association of Biotechnologist and Association of Pharmacy (ABAP). In 2011, he was elected Fellow to Association of Microbiologist (FAMI) of India, Fellow of Society for Applied Biotechnology (FSAB) and received SAB award for Excellence in Medical
Biotechnology and in 2008, he was been awarded most admired genomic pioneer in
Human Genomic Organizer Meeting.
10 Ph. D’s 10 MS and 3 MS has been completed under his supervision,. He has numerous grants from various funding agencies such as DBT, DST, ICMR, DRDO, BRNS and others. He has published 98 papers in peer review journals such as JBC, Blood, JCI, BJ, European j of Material sciences, J of stem cell research, PloS ONE, Drug Discovery Today, Cancer Science, Nanoscience etc.
