Sung Kwon Cho's Biography

Sung Kwon Cho, Associate Professor

Sung Kwon Cho received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Seoul National University, Korea, in 1990, 1992, and 1998, respectively. He had extensive postdoctoral experience in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Cho is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Pittsburgh. His primary research focus is on “microfluidics,” with particular emphasis on the development of a variety of micro/bio fluidic transducers and integrated systems that enable us to efficiently handle a wide range of micro/bio substances such as micro/nano fluids, functional particles, molecules, and so on. The major research topics include Microbubble Dynamics and Control, LOC-Based Particle Sampling, and Separation/Concentration in Droplet-Based (Digital) Microfluidics, wireless Powered EWOD (electrocuting on dielectric), Micro Propulsion Mechanisms for water-floating and underwater mini/micro robots. All these research activities have been financially supported by numerous federal grants (NSF, DOD, DOE, Department of Homeland Security and AHA) and local grants.
