INTRODUCTION

In recent years the growth rates of world agricultural production and crop yields have slowed with changing climate conditions. This has raised fears that the world may not be able to grow enough food and other commodities to ensure that future populations are adequately fed. To maintain the food supply and sustainable productivity, a key future technology that is Agrigenomics provide enormous benefits for the agricultural community.

Agrigenomics mainly focus on crop and plant genomes to analyse sequences at functional and structural level by providing virtual solutions to on-farm food safety and environmental stewardship. Agrigenome knowledge could then be used to produce stronger, more drought, disease and insect resistant crops and improve the quality of livestock making them healthier, more disease resistant and more productive.

This 1 day training course will focus on the use of efficient technologies of Agrigenomics and Plant informatics which involves in identifying various patterns of structural and functional characteristics of plants. During this course, you will be introduced to AgriGenomics to understand the genetic and molecular basis of all biological processes in plants that are relevant to the species.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED

  • Introduction to Agri-Genomics
  • Databases
  • Abiotic and Biotic Characteristics
  • Gene Annotation
  • Gene Silencing
  • Structural and Functional Annotation

Practical Application
Hands-on exercises will be performed individually by each participant using software tools on his/her own laptop. No prior experience is required.
