Clinical Practicum: Hands-on Demonstration of Adipose-derived Stem Cell Manipulations Ex Vivo at Surgery Center.

Allan Wu, Chief Scientific Officer, The Morrow Institute

Demographically, the expansion of our aging “Baby Boomer” population is creating explosive growth in the prevalence of chronic morbidity issues with degenerative and damaged joints (i.e. rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, torn rotator cuffs, meniscal tears, etc.) .   Since there is a high demand for minimally invasive procedures in this arena, we will be showcasing novel regenerative orthopedic techniques developed by the faculty of our course.  During the practicum a model patient with major joint disease/injury will be treated with a unique combination of marrow and fat stem cells in a FDA compliant fashion and under radiographic guidance (C-arm fluoroscopy).  Attendees will witness first hand the practical aspects of patient selection, counseling, graft processing materials, appropriate graft handling, proper sequence of material injection and real time radiographic evaluation of the joint space intraoperatively to facilitate localization, documentation and completion of therapy.  Delegates are encouraged to obtain a hands-on experience with the injection instruments and procedural devices during this highly informative training session.
