Ulrich Broeckel's Biography

Ulrich Broeckel, Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and Physiology - Chief, Section of Genomic Pediatrics, Medical College of Wisconsin

Dr. Ulrich Broeckel obtained his undergraduate training at the University of Ulm, Germany and in 1994 obtained his MD from the University of Heidelberg, Germany followed by a residency training in the Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Regensburg, Germany. In 1996, he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship grant and joined the Department of Physiology, Medical College of Wisconsin as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2000, he joined the Human and Molecular Genetics Center, Medical College of Wisconsin as a faculty member. At the present time, Dr. Broeckel is a Professor of Pediatrics, Medicine and Physiology and Chief - Section Genomics Pediatrics. The main research interest of his lab focused on using genetics and genomics for precision medicine in hypertension, coronary artery disease and left ventricular hypertrophy. As part of these efforts, the lab uses induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and derived cell types to study the function of variants in the context of targeted tissue. Dr. Broeckel is also the technical director of a CAP/CLIA certified lab providing cytogenetics and pharmacogenetic testing services.
