Khoon Lim's Biography

Khoon Lim, Senior Research Fellow, Team Leader, Christchurch Regenerative Medicine & Tissue Engineering Group, University of Otago Christchurch

Dr. Khoon Lim is a biomedical engineer with a research focus on adopting a class of polymers known as hydrogels as tissue engineering matrices for a variety of applications. His research technology platform involves photo-polymerizable hydrogel bioinks for 3D bioprinting of functional tissues and also delivery of bioactive molecules to promote tissue regeneration. He has generated multiple high impact journal publications and has been awarded a total of >NZD$ 3million research grant funding, including the prestigious Emerging Researcher First Grant and Sir Charles Hercus Fellowship, both from the Health Research Council of New Zealand, and also a MARSDEN Fast Start Grant from the Royal Society of New Zealand. His research has also generated one full utility patent (US62/262245), now filed in Canada, China, New Zealand, Australia, America, Europe, South Korea), where he’s the lead inventor. Dr. Lim is also currently an Associate Investigator on the Centre of Research Excellence in Medical Technologies (MedTech CoRE), Affiliate Investigator on the Maurice Wilkins Centre (MWC) for Molecular Diversity, and Executive Committee member of the Australasian Society of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (ASBTE). He also currently sits on the editorial board of Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express and Frontiers in Bioengineering & Biotechnology.
