Craig Lehmann's Biography

Craig Lehmann, Dean/Professor, Stony Brook University

Craig Lehmann, PhD, CC (NRCC), FACB is the Dean of The School of Health Technology and Management, Professor of Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Director for the Center of Public Health Education at Stony Brook University, Medicine. He is a registered clinical chemist with the National Registry of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow in the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. In addition to his more than 75 journal articles, He has edited and co-edited 5 clinical laboratory science textbooks and 14 book chapters. He is the editor and author “Saunders Manual of Clinical Laboratory Science” published by W.B. Saunders. He has made more than 130 presentations nationally and internationally on a variety of health care topics. He served on the editorial board for American Association for Clinical Chemistry “Strategies” (1993-2003) and presently serves on the editorial board of Clinical Laboratory Sciences since 1987. Some of the more distinguished honors that have been bestowed upon him over the years have been; “President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching” Stony Brook University as well as the State University of New York “Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching”. In 2007 received the American Association for Clinical Chemistry’s Award for Outstanding Contributions in Education. For the past several years, Dr. Lehmann has participated in national and international conferences lecturing on emerging technologies that improve the aging experience. His writings and demonstration studies continue to illustrate how e-health technology is responding to the socio-economic and health care concerns of developed and developing countries. The objectives of this presentation are to address challenges and opportunities of the many needs of the countries priorities to deliver high impact interventions that will improve health outcomes for their aged citizens while strengthening health systems. Under this concept I will focus on the entire continuum of aging through the use of technologies, information communication and physician extenders while aging in place (home). This presentation will address the economics, education, social and health needs of citizens while residing in their home. Topics include electronic health record, chronic disease, home care, rural health care as well as present and future technologies. The presentation will address the major role for ICT in the public health arena (e.g., mobile technology) and its ability to offer health interventions, education and preventive strategies that can address the challenges of the those who have and those who do not now and in the future.
