3D Printing Model Assist Ribs Open Reduction and Internal Fixation

Kuan Hsun Lin, Chief Resident, Division of Thoracic Surgery, National Defense Medical Center and Taiwan FDA

3DP is a novel class of material generation that including several processes. Current evidence demonstrates these change in the material generation have a potential to improve the surgical planning and possible to create the new surgical intervention to resolve problems. The utilization of 3D printing model assist ribs open reduction and internal fixation revealed the import of preoperative shaping personalize plates to improve surgical intervention. With the 3D printing model, we propose to predict the surgical outcome, to reduce the time of plate design on a table, thus to minimize hemorrhage risk and to ease the post-operative pain. We have successfully used the 3D model in more than 10 cases. The Preliminary result demonstrates the surgical intervention of ribs open reduction and internal fixation without complications.
