Sorting of Deformable Objects and Blood-Plasma Separation

Sorting of deformable objects such as droplets and cells have significant importance in healthcare and chemical applications, respectively. The sorting of different droplets/cells based on the difference in their size and viscosity/stiffness in a microchannel network and sorting of droplets based on size and viscosity at a fluid-fluid interface will be presented and discussed. Separation of plasma from whole blood is essential step in the detection of biomarkers in sample blood. The separation of blood cells and plasma from sample blood in a capillary flow format using patterned microchannel and acoustophoresis will be presented and discussed.
