Role of Polymorphs in Drug Discovery
Keshav Deo, Senior Vice President, Wockhardt Research Center
The last decay has seen a major transformation in the area of polymorphism . Indeed it opens an opportunity to explore the use of polymorphic study as an attractive tool in Drug Discovery. Numerous polymorphs are scaled-up to meet the global demand of API’s. The global use of suitable polymorph in drugs have been increased by ~4 % against the previous year. I sense all-pervasive mood of optimism as polymorphism in drug research is reflecting increasingly scientific talent at the large scale manufacturing. Worldwide companies are struggling with the competing priorities of rising appropriate polymorph for high quality drugs, ever-increasing safety and regulatory burden.
