Natural Product Drug Discovery: From Extracts to Lead Compound Selection
Mark Butler, Senior Research Fellow, University of Queensland
Natural products have been a source of many novel chemical scaffolds that have been used to develop drugs, especially in the areas of oncology, anti-infectives and immunosuppression. This talk will discuss various strategies on how to generate an optimal natural product-based screening library, as well as describe various screening methods used to identify and prioritize assay hits. The final part of the talk will discuss strategies that aid in lead compound selection from the isolated compounds.
