Rate-based Experimental Design using Continuous Flow Reactors
Christopher Hone, Research Scholar, University of Leeds
[FROM SPEAKER] Currently there is not a reliable scale-up workpath for the development of flow processes, which is a key barrier to the uptake of continuous flow technologies in the fine chemical industries. The primary focus of this research is to generate process understanding of system performance rather than finding a single set of optimal operating conditions that maximises yield or other reaction metric in a particular equipment setup, which is prevalent when using black box approaches such as statistical methods (DoE) and self-optimising systems. The development of rate models through a combined experimental design and kinetics approach enables developers to anticipate the system behaviour outside the study space.
