David Cullen's Biography



David Cullen, Professor, Cranfield University

David Cullen has a BSc in biochemistry from the University of East Anglia and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, the latter whilst studying in the biosensor group of Professor C R Lowe. Post-doctoral studies in the same group followed before joining Cranfield University initially as a lecturer in the area of biosensors. Since 2008 he has held the post of Professor of Bioanalytical Technology within the school of Cranfield Health. Throughout his research career he has been involved in biosensor and related bioanalytical technologies research, both underpinning aspects and applications in the medical and environmental sectors.

Detection, quantification and characterisation of Life in remote and extreme environments – beneath glaciers, in the stratosphere and on Mars – pose a number of challenges that have relevance to biodetection elsewhere. Examples of on-going research into these areas will be given.
