Juergen Gross,
Head Mass Spectrometry Lab,
Heidelberg University
Dr. Gross is head of the mass spectrometry facility at the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the University of Heidelberg since April 1994, which has collaborations with groups of other faculties and industry. His tasks include teaching, research, maintenance, acquisition of instrumentation, and to assist researchers with MS-related problems. From 1984 to 1989 Dr. Gross studied chemistry at the TechnischeUniversität Darmstadt (TUD, formerly TechnischeHochschule Darmstadt, THD). In 1990 he finished his diploma theses with Prof. Dr. J. J. Veith and in January 1994 received his Ph.D. after having continued his work on tandem MS and gas phase ion chemistry. Dr. Gross is member of the Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Massenspektrometrie (DGMS) and is associated to the Executive Committee of DGMS. He is member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), GesellschaftDeutscherChemiker (GDCh), and of GDCh FachgruppeAnalytischeChemie. In 2013 he has been appointed member of the Editorial Advisory Board of European Journal of Mass Spectrometry (EJMS). Further, he serves as a reviewer for Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry (ABC), and other journals or institutions. Since 2004 he has been serving the jury of the Wolfgang Paul-Studienpreis awarded by the DGMS; from 2009 to 2014 as the chairman of this jury. In 2013, he has been serving as local organizer of the biennial FT-MS meeting of DGMS. Dr. Gross has taught several courses and seminars at companies, user meetings, and DGMS annual conferences. Jointly with Professor O. David Sparkman he has taught two-day short courses during the 18th IMSC in Bremen 2009, 19th IMSC in Kyoto 2012, and will continue this series during the 20th IMSC in Geneva 2014. He is author of scientific papers, book reviews, conference reports, a book chapter, and of Mass Spectrometry - A Textbook.
