Edgar Specker's Biography



Edgar Specker, Head of Compound Management, Medicinal Chemistry Group, Leibniz Institute of Molecular Pharmacology

Edgar Specker studied chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany. After his diplomacy thesis at the Bayer AG he received his PhD in 2004 as a member of Prof. Klebe´s research group at the University of Marburg. During his postdoctoral studies he joined the group of Prof. Bradley at the Universities of Southampton and Edinburgh. His professional career as medicinal chemist started in the biotech company N-Zyme BioTec GmbH (now Zedira GmbH) working on the synthesis of transglutaminase inhibitors. In 2007, he moved to the Jerini AG (bought by Shire) and collaborated in a joined project with the company Alcon focussing on a target to treat Glaucoma. Since 2010 he is responsible for the compound management of the Leibniz Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) as part of the medicinal chemistry group.

Here we present our joint collaborative research effort screening the FMP compound library in a high throughput campaign which led to the identification of initial hits.
