Dr. Li was conferred MBBS in 1982 from Jiangxi Medical College and MSc in 1986 from Peking Union Medical College, China. Subsequently, he went to University of Geneva in Switzerland for further training under the mentorship of Prof. Claes B. Wollheim and was conferred MD in 1993. He then spent 2 years as a senior research fellow in University of Wisconsin at Madison, USA. He joined National University of Singapore to set up his own lab in 1996 and was an associate professor since 2003. Dr. Li moved Singapore General Hospital as a Senior Principal Research Scientist in 2010. He spent 4 months on sabbatical leave in Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School in 2003. Dr. Li’s major long-term research areas include islet beta-cell biology, generation of surrogate insulin-producing cells for diabetes therapy, and pathogenesis of dysfunctional vascular endothelium in diabetes.
