Michael Barnes's Biography

Michael Barnes, Co Founder, OI Pharma Partners Ltd

Dr Michael Barnes is a co-founder of OI Pharma Partners Ltd, a consultancy using open innovation as a tool to stimulate R&D in the pharma and healthcare sectors. With over 14 years of Pharma R&D experience, he previously led a computational biology team at GlaxoSmithKline focused on translational research for neuroscience drug discovery. Michael has championed pre-competitive collaboration in pharma1, recently he co-led an EFPIA team to gain €?????Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) funding for the OpenPhacts project2. The project aims to build “an open pharmacological space” - a suite of public bio- and cheminformatics resources for drug discovery. Michael is also passionate about improving the translational and collaborative interface between industry and academia. This is now his primary focus as the recently appointed Director of Bioinformatics at the William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London.
