Atena Zahedi,
Researcher,
University of California-Riverside
Atena Zahedi obtained her Bachelor’s of Science in Biomedical Engineering from USC, and began her PhD in the Department of Bioengineering at UCR in 2011. The focus of her research is spatial and temporal regulation of actin-regulating proteins using novel optogenetic tools. Atena uses light-inducible versions of these proteins in order to study morphological and functional changes in the cytoskeleton and to modulate the underlying actin reorganization involved in synaptic degeneration. She is using advanced modeling software (Comsol, Matlab, ImageJ etc.) to model/study these signaling pathways.
