Uma Vempati,
Associate Scientist,
University of Miami
Dr. Uma Vempati did her Ph.D. in cell- and molecular biology with Prof. Paturu Kondaiah on “Characterization of the Transforming growth factor-beta 5 gene structure and promoter”. She did her postdoc with Prof. Mary Lou King at the University of Miami and studied RNA localization in the Xenopus development. In a second postdoc with Prof. Carlos Moraes, She worked on understanding the role of cytochrome c in oxidative phosphorylation and apoptosis. Presently, she is involved in the development of bio-ontologies and metadata standards to describe high throughput screening (HTS) assays as part of BAO, LINCS and BARD projects. Her interests are in working towards integration of diverse HTS data to obtain new knowledge that would facilitate efficient drug discovery.
