Bernardo Lemos's Biography

Bernardo Lemos, Assistant Professor, Harvard School Of Public Health

Bernardo Lemos is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Epigenetics at the Harvard School of Public Health. He holds a MSc degrees in genetics from the Instituto Nacional do Cancer (INCa) in Brazil, and a PhD from Harvard University. His laboratory at the Harvard School of Public Health combines computational and experimental biology to understand the balance between genomic and environmental components of phenotypic variation. His recent research has been published in Science, PNAS, Nature Genetics, PLoS Genetics, Genome Biology, Genetics, and others. He is currently investigating why and how individual genomes uniquely respond to a variety of environmental stimuli and stressors, ranging from diet to ubiquitous environmental toxins to nano-materials. The studies have implications for diseases as diverse as diabetes, autism, and cancer. He has recently received a New Scholar in Aging Award from the Ellison Medical Foundation, and a William Milton Award from Harvard University.
