Jennifer Laurence's Biography



Jennifer Laurence, Associate Professor, University of Kansas

Dr. Laurence is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Louise Byrd Graduate Educator at Kansas University. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Purdue University and received postdoctoral training in Structural Biology. She has 15 years of experience working with proteins, focusing on analysis of their structure, function, and stability. Dr. Laurence serves on the American Chemical Society’s Committee on Science, the Editorial Advisory Board for Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and is Guest Editor for a 2012 special issue of Molecular Pharmaceutics on Advances in Biophysical and Bioanalytical Protein Characterization.

A novel peptide sequence that binds a metal ion and generates a unique peptide-metal complex having a negative charge and controlled release properties is being developed. We engineered this tag into a set of polypeptides and examined its ability to modulate solubility and stability.
