Aditi Chatterjee's Biography

Aditi Chatterjee, Faculty Scientist, Institute of Bioinformatics

Dr. Aditi Chatterjee is a faculty member at the Institute of Bioinformatics, Bangalore. Prior to joining IOB, she was a member of the faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland. She was at Johns Hopkins University for 12 years, first as a Postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. David Sidransky and subsequently as an Instructor. Her work has focused on Translational Cancer Research with a special emphasis on breast, head and neck, lung, and bladder cancers. Her research focus has been in the following areas: (i) defining the molecular determinants of the response of tumor cells to chemotherapeutic agents; (ii) elucidating mechanisms of drug resistance in human cancers; and (iii) Understanding the role of cigarette smoke in resistance of cancers to chemotherapeutic agents.
At IOB she is working on genomic alterations in oral cancer pertaining to habitual use of tobacco. Her work focuses on aberrant signaling in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in response to chewing and smoking tobacco, to identify new therapeutic targets and elucidate non-response to existing therapies.
She has published 35 papers in peer reviewed international journals including, PNAS, Cancer Research, FASEB Journal, Oncogene. She has served as the lead editor for Special Issue of Journal of Oncology on “Cigarette smoke and Cancer”. She is a reviewer for a number of journals including PLOS One, Journal of Proteomics, Proteomics, FEBS Letters and Hematological Oncology. She was the recipient of Young Clinical Scientist Award from Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute, Florida, USA.
