Clare Stirzaker,
Group Leader,
Garvan Institute of Medical Research
Dr Clare Stirzaker is currently the Group Leader of Epigenome Technology and Deputy Head of the Cancer Epigenetics Research Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney. She also holds a conjoint position at the School of Medicine, University of New South Wales as Senior Lecturer. As a long-standing research scientist within the Epigenetics Program, she has played a major role in the delivery of many of the milestones in epigenetic research over the past 15 years together with Professor Susan Clark. In particular, she has been involved in the development of ground breaking techniques for epigenetic analyses, such as bisulphite sequencing for DNA methylation analysis, ChIP-chip and ChIP-Seq, and RNA-Seq. Dr Stirzaker’s research has given rise to new insights into the role of chromatin modifications and DNA methylation deregulation in cancer. This is evident from key contributions to the field (Coolen and Stirzaker et al., Nature Cell Biology 2010 and Bert et al, Cancer Cell 2013).
