Paul Andrews's Biography



Paul Andrews, Director/Consultant, Stem Cell Solutions Ltd

Paul holds an Honours Degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Sheffield, UK and has over 25 yrs research experience encompassing molecular genetics, cell biology, quantitative imaging and drug discovery. Latterly Paul has focused on translational research in academia-industry consortia and in the biotech sector, with an emphasis on phenotypic drug discovery using stem cells. Paul spent 4 years as team leader in the Drug Discovery Unit at the University of Dundee where, in collaboration with Cellartis AB, his team set up high content screening and pioneered industry-standard phenotypic screening of human ES cells and their derivatives. Paul was then team leader at Cellartis supporting a stem cell screening programme and cGMP-grade reagent/media development for a diabetes cell therapy programme. Since 2013 Paul has been working as an independent consultant for the Scottish Universities Life Science Alliance (SULSA) to secure funding for, design and then create the National Phenotypic Screening Centre, which opened in 2015. Paul is currently Director of Operations at the NPSC, University of Dundee, is member of the Board and Scientific Review Committee of the Phenomics Discovery Initiative and is on the Science Advisory Board of Axol Bioscience Ltd.

The National Phenotypic Screening Centre is a new interdisciplinary drug discovery facility working with industry and academia, driving innovation and creating impact by bringing technology to the biology, in order to tackle disease in humans, animals and plants.
