Marko Blom's Biography

Marko Blom, Chief Technical Officer, Micronit Microtechnologies

Marko Blom has been the CTO at Micronit Microtechnologies since 2005 and has extensive experience in management of high-tech development projects. Prior to this he worked as a research scientist for Polymer Laboratories. During his PhD and subsequent work Marko has developed a deep understanding of microfluidics and MEMS applications and of the enabling technologies required for the development of products in these fields. Currently Marko acts as coordinator for a European project (MFManufacturing) combining a large number of partners from the microfluidics field working on standardization of microfluidics technologies at various levels.

At Micronit Microfluidics, we have fabricated passive capillary stop valves in untreated hydrophilic glass although the general design can be applied to any highly hydrophilic material. These valves demonstrate stable stopping of capillary pressure driven liquid. The valves can be triggered on demand for sequential flow microfluidic applications such as lab-on-a-chip immunoassay.
