Pedro Mesquita's Biography



Pedro Mesquita, Research Assistant, University of Rhode Island

Pedro Mesquita is a PhD student currently working at the Microfluidics and Microsystems Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mackenzie University (Brazil) in 2019. His research interest is in microfluidics and particle manipulation in multiple applications, especially in the field of environmental monitoring. He is also working on acoustofluidics and low-cost microfluidics.

Plastic pollution has emerged as a global concern yet low-cost but effective identification of microplastics is still in demand. Here, we present a novel 3D printed microplastic recognition device based on the staining agent Nile Red.
