Jens Sobek's Biography

Jens Sobek, Research Scientist, University of Zurich

Jens Sobek is research scientist at the Functional Genomics Center in Zurich. He studied Organic and Photochemistry at the Technical University of Merseburg (Germany), and received a Ph.D. at the Free University of Berlin in 1996 for his work with Prof. H.
Kurreck on photoinduced electron transfer in model systems of photosynthesis. As postdoctoral associate, he studied kinetics of elemental processes in electron transfer and
polymerization, resp., at Graz University of Technology (Austria) and University of
Zurich (Switzerland). Later, he joint the company Microsynth (Switzerland) to develop
oligonucleotide microarrays. In 2002, he changed to the newly founded Functional
Genomics Center in Zurich working on microarrays, surface-plasmon resonance, and
single-molecule experiments.
