Meenal Kowshick,
Assistant Professor,
Birla Institute of Technology & Science Pilani
Meenal Kowshik received her M.Sc in Microbiology from Goa University in 1997. She worked on the biological synthesis of metallic and metal sulfide nanoparticles using yeasts at Agarkar Research Institute, and obtained her Ph.D. degree from Pune University (1999–2003). Subsequently, she joined Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani-K. K. Birla Goa Campus, and is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. Her research interests include studies on biofunctionalization of silver based nanocomposites for antimicrobial applications, synthesis of biocompatible nanomaterials for tissue engineering and application of nanomaterials in molecular biology research. She is also working in the area of interactions of nanomaterials and microorganisms with respect to nanomaterial synthesis as well as toxicity, with special emphasis on halophilic archaebacteria.
