Jennifer Knight's Biography



Jennifer Knight, Medical Student at the University of Oxford, University of Oxford

A current 5th year medical student at the University of Oxford, Jennifer is a high achiever who is committed to pursuing a career in medicine. Since graduating from Cardiff Sixth Form College she has achieved a 1st class degree in Medical Sciences from Oxford. She has participated in research throughout her time at medical school, encompassing both lab-based and evidence-based research. Outside of academia she is actively involved in university life and is currently president of the Oxford Cardiothoracic Surgery Society, which aims to explore and promote the field to students at the university and beyond, and Turl Street Homeless Action, a society that supports rough sleepers by providing food, drinks, and other supplies. She also holds committee positions on the Oxford Neurosurgery Society and the Oxford Plastic Surgery Society.

This project consisted of designing a microfluidic device in which we fluidically isolated the somas, axons, and dendrites of stem-cell derived neurons. This allowed us to create a novel in-vitro model where we can study remote damage in ischaemic stroke.
