Catherine Kuo,
Assistant Professor,
Tufts University
Catherine K. Kuo is an Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Tufts University and a faculty member of the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University School of Medicine. She received her B.S.E. in Materials Science and Engineering and her Ph.D. in Biomaterials and Macromolecular Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She then pursued postdoctoral training at the NIAMS of the National Institutes of Health. Her research focuses on engineering tissues informed by the unique microenvironments of embryonic, healing, diseased, and aging tissues, with an emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. She is using these engineered tissues to study mechanisms of healthy and aberrant tissue formation (e.g. fibrosis), and also generating replacement tissues. Professor Kuo is on the advisory council for the International Society of Ligaments and Tendons, serves on the editorial review board for Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and is a recipient of a March of Dimes Basil O’Connor Starter Scholar Research Award and an NSF CAREER Award.
